Sustainable luxury retail design using Clayworks clay plasters

Shuttered Concrete Effect Clay Plasters

Ancient shuttered concrete was a feature in parts of an old Spitalfields market building taken over by a luxury fashion company. Their brief to Clayworks was to match the raw aesthetic using only pure, natural clay plasters.

Since launching our ready-made clay plasters in 2011, after 12 years of research and innovation, there has been a significant change in people’s perceptions of what is possible with this ancient building material, that is non-toxic, breathable, biodegradable and through pigmented with natural minerals.

Bespoke is an important part of luxury, and so are the materials and finishes used within retail spaces that are as meticulously fashioned as the haute couture clothes and accessories inside them. The textural and tonal qualities of clay plasters, along with the on-site application, ensure unique surface designs that are utterly and unconventionally exciting.

Surfaces that are powerful and extraordinary studies in contradictions: concrete and clay, industrial versus designer, old versus contemporary, the raw and the pure pristine.

Luxury is also synonymous with wellness and the ability of clay to breath, absorb glare, sound, moisture and odour, ensure a calm and relaxing retail experience.

The versatility of modern clay plasters, coupled with the skilful application by Clayworks accredited artisan plasterers is such that they can be used to replicate endless industrial surface designs without the environmental toll.
